Cat O’Neil: Pieces of You
–
We grow together. We grow apart.
How do we come to terms with a break up? Probably not by making a living replica of your girlfriend in glass and filling it with your memories. But that is what this story is about. Pieces Of You tracks one man’s progress as he tries to understand why his long term partner left him. He fills a glass vessel with his memories of their time together, and with each memory the vessel becomes more lifelike. But as the vessel grows, as do her own thoughts and memories. The vessel thinks. The vessel feels… And we start to see a very different story.
Cat O’Neil will be exhibiting original drawings, paintings and prints from Pieces Of You, a self-authored narrative. Pieces Of You is an immersive ‘walk through’ of one couples relationship, shown through poetic scenes and objects from their lives. The paintings are the latest in an experiment with watercolour, ink and gouache.
Cat graduated from Edinburgh College of Art with a First Class Honours in Illustration. She has since worked as a freelance illustrator and artist, having done residencies at Edinburgh College of Art and Lingnan University. Cat has received many accolades including Arts Council England’s Grant For The Arts, winner of the Cheltenham Illustration Awards and short-listed for the AOI Illustration Awards for four consecutive years.
