Helen Friel: Waiting Game

Waiting Game
‘An Englishman, even if he is alone forms an orderly queue of one.’ - George Mikes
In her first solo show, paper engineer Helen Friel explores the peculiarities of British life - taking idioms, queues and waiting rooms to their logical and often surreal conclusions. How long is a piece of string? Can you have your cake and eat it? What’s wrong with Coventry?
Combining the traditional with technology, Friel’s models are meticulously finished by hand and despite their paper form, deceptively solid.
Helen Friel is a freelance Paper Engineer who studied Graphic Design at Central Saint Martins. Her work bridges the gap between two and three dimensions and is often influenced by a dark sense of humour. Working from her South London studio Helen’s clients include Vogue, Vanity Fair and Time Magazine.
