Broughs new collection of glass light paintings are set in strong laminated glass cases and incorporate her signature botanical and architectural illustrations. These hand painted cut glass panels come together to produce intricate multi layered compositions.
Each artwork conceals a light panel which radiates hues of amber, orange, pinks and red through the coloured glass, creating a contemporary yet reflective ambience.
This latest work is inspired by Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848 1933), whose experiments with layering painted glass to show multiple textures and panels revolutionised the making of stained glass and reinvented the medium.
This revolutionary technique is resonant in Helen Broughs innovative collection, which is on display at The Coningsby Gallery for two weeks from 21 November 2011.
