Square 1 Spaces: Hauntingly Beautiful

Square 1 Spaces is a fresh and unique contemporary gallery hosting art events within dynamic and complementary venues through the practice of pop up exhibitions. We will host both solo and collective exhibitions showcasing up and coming and experienced artists in many different genres and mediums ranging from drawing, painting and sculpture to fashion prints and digital media based art. All of our artists demonstrate dedicated workmanship, innovative style and challenging ideas. The use of pop up exhibitions means the art occupies new and interesting spaces that complement the work while this visionary business model enables us to promote our artists in desirable areas around central London.

This September we will be hosting our very first exhibition (Hauntingly Beautiful) focused on the interpretation of the human form. The exhibition will include a number of contemporary figurative artists exploring their interpretation of the human form, through drawing, sculptor and commercial fashion. Our exhibition will coincide with London Fashion week and will be hosted at the The Coningsby Gallery in the thriving area of Fitzrovia right in the heart of London’s cultural West End from the 12th to the 18th of September.

The wide ranging interpretation and use of the figure in this exhibition demonstrate how the perception of the body has evolved beyond the traditional boundaries of figurative art. The fusion of artistic disciplines and styles highlight the ambiguity and fluctuating form of the figure and capture fleeting moments of movement within the body creating interesting parallels of forms and shapes. For each of the artists the human form is not only influential but is the core of there creative purpose. The wood sculptor Tony Mewburn Crook uses the figurative characteristics already inherent within the natural wood. While the figure governs the artistic interpretation of the fashion designers Lizita and Le Thuy. Tattoo artist Katie Jorden draws with the intention to embellish the body. These artists are joined by their continuing engagement with the human figure and by their diverse approaches to creative process.

The exhibition will also offer a unique bespoke service of dress fitting in combination with its corresponding artwork.

Private view: Saturday 12th September 2015, 4pm-8pm. Cocktails.
