the biHand printmakers: The Affordable Wall
–
‘bihand printmakers’ is a group of artists who started exhibiting together in 2011 when Dawn Finn and Paula Duggan decided to join forces with some of their friends and colleagues. The core group principally exhibit their etchings or print work, hence the ‘bihand printmakers’ label. However, they also like to involve artists who work in other media to their exhibitions as they feel that it gives their shows more interest and variety. This year, as well as etchings, the show will also include works in gouache, collage, acrylic paint, ceramics and fused glass.
This being the second year that ‘bihand printmakers’ have exhibited at the Coningsby, the group decided to add a slight departure to the 2011 show. With the economy as it is, and with a desire to offer affordable art particularly to a younger, less affluent audience, the idea of ‘The Affordable Wall’ show was born. So this year, as well as the group exhibiting some of their recent work, they are also all preparing one, fixed-priced ‘affordable wall’ piece. This has been a busy year for the ‘bihand’ artists having recently been involved in the “Makers at the Mill” show that was staged to coincide with the Olympics as well as numerous other events in local galleries.
